Strategy Analytics released a study mid-last week forecasting a “huge change” in smartphones’ market within the next two years.

According to the research traded units figures of mobiles allowing HTML5 might increase from 336 million to 1 billion up to 2013 – threefold the current number.

But 2012 outlook is dim to conclude if next year is the year HTML5 will gain the upper hand on native mobile apps, suggests Chris Chodnicki from R2Itegrated reminding “HTML5 promises to deliver universal access and make the creation of portable, scalable applications for browsers” on one hand.

According to him, mobile and tablet sales exceeding one billion and 81 million by following years, respectively, mean mobile landscape is at the edge of a “perfect storm” driven by the duel business/consumer service, clearly keeping the support of a growing influence in everyone’s daily lives.

On the other hand, while this sounds great, “there are still hurdles, specifically in B2B market adoption”, he states. “HTML5 requires a browser capable of supporting its framework. Older browsers may support some but not all the capabilities leaving organizations in a form of purgatory in terms of their ability to fully develop, and implement HTML5 apps. All of that said, most agree it is a foregone conclusion that HMTL5 will be fully embraced as a universal solution, with the reality pointing to 2012 as when the tipping point occurs”, says Chodnicki.

The adoption of HTML5 for Web apps could cut Apple’s profit growth by 30 percent, says Bernstein Research, in a recent survey. The researchers believe widespread adoption of HTML5 will affect iPhones and iPads.

HTML5 is interesting to developers and business because it can be used to build applications to run in all mobile platforms.

This way is more cost-effective and less labor-intensive than to build different native apps for iOS, Windows Phone and Android.

One of the most amazing things that the Apps revolution caused in the market was the possibility for everybody to develop Apps and distribute it to people around the World. But most of developers criticize Stores because of their business model where the developer receives 70% of all revenues. The fact is that this market is growing at fantastic numbers and many changes are happening, like new business model that players are proposing. Google, for instance, is proposing a 95%-5% business model for their Chrome Web App Store that is a huge incentive for developer’s community.

Besides the business model issue, what else can motivate developers to start new projects? We are completely sure that HTML5 is a strong value proposition for new developers. HTML5 is an open and standard platform that allows developers easily write apps for all compatible platforms. See this fantastic example of a new developer that is entering in the iPad apps world using HMTL5: CLICK HERE

So, developers can easily develop for many platforms and an exciting issue about HTML5 is that users don´t need any kind of jailbreak to access the apps, because all of them are web based solutions! Take a look at our post of June 29 – “Our little big fan!”.

All these issues probably will help a lot the growth of Web Apps and we Zeewe will continue improving features to help users and developers.
